I can't

The more you love somebody, the easier it is to forget that you’re not supposed to keep carrying his pain.

“Cast all your cares and worries and anxiety on Him. . . .” 1 Peter 5:7

Father, into Your strong and compassionate hands I will keep committing the one I love. Rescue him, because I can’t. From Psalm 31:5

the seventh day

If you made a list of the ten most important things in life, would one of them be rest?

“You shall work six days, but on the seventh day you shall rest. Even during plowing time and harvest, you shall rest.” Exodus 34:21

“Keeping the Sabbath says that we live by God’s goodness and creativity, not our own. Instead of scrambling frantically through the seventh day, we spend time with friends and family, blessing others. . . .” Dr. James Houston

keep entrusting

When someone you love desperately needs help that you can’t give, the best and hardest thing you can do is keep entrusting her to God. Worrying comes a lot more naturally.

“[_____’s] help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth. . . . He Who watches over [_____] will not slumber. . . . The Lord will watch over [_____’s] coming and going both now and forever.” Psalm 121:2, 3, 8

Father, help me to trust You. From Mark 9:24

swimming upstream

Sometimes, in hard times, the right choice feels a lot like swimming upstream.

“Choose not to lose heart. . . .” Galatians 6:9

“[T]he pull of the current is always toward loss of heart.” John Eldredge

other wonders

Yesterday, for a few quick minutes, a shaft of afternoon sun lit up crowds of tiny particles in my office air and made me wonder what other wonders I can’t see yet.

Father, please open the eyes of my heart today.

“The whole earth is full of His glory.” Isaiah 6:3

healing words

If you asked God for healing words, would you be amazed if He gave them to you?

“Thou, who makest eloquent the tongue of the [mute], instruct my tongue. . . . Give me . . . copious grace of speaking.” Thomas Acquinas

“The Sovereign Lord has given me an instructed tongue, to know the word that sustains the weary.” Isaiah 50:4
