and yet sings

Feeling unsteady and helpless is a good thing if it reminds you to ask for (and enjoy) help.

“[T]rust the Lord to uphold you, and you will be sustained and supported and carried.” 2 Chronicles 20:20

“Be like the bird who, pausing . . . on boughs too slight, feels them give way . . . and yet sings, knowing she hath wings.” Victor Hugo

a child alone?

There’s a big difference between a child alone and a child in his father’s arms.

“Thou . . . alone knowest what lies before me to do or to suffer. But because Thou art my Father, I am not afraid.” John Baillie

“God is . . . exceedingly abundantly present to help in trouble and adversity. Therefore, we will not dread and fear. . . .” Psalm 46:1-2

savor and smile

When you get huge news (even great good news) and you’re in charge, you have to race ahead trying to answer all the new how and what-if questions. If you’re not, you can be still and relax and rest and savor and smile.

“Be still, my soul: thy God doth undertake/To guide the future as He has the past. . . .” Katharina von Schlegel

“Like a shepherd, He will care for . . . and carry . . . and gently lead. . . .” Isaiah 40:11

a welcoming word

Sometimes life feels like a stroll in the park. When it doesn’t, refuge is a welcoming word.

refuge: shelter; safe haven; protection

“God is our refuge. . . .” Psalm 46:1

wider awake

Wouldn’t it be wonderful to be wider awake with every passing day?

Father, please awaken my soul today, so that I can see and hear and enjoy. From Psalm 57:8

“I keep an inventory of wonders.” Wendell Berry

no shadow of shame

Whenever you ask am-I-enough questions apart from God, the answer is always not yet.

“[We] jump through all sorts of hoops on the assumption that what we do, what we look like, what we achieve and what we earn determines who we are.” Dr. James Houston

“Those who look to Him [for their identity] will be radiant; no shadow of shame will darken their faces.” Psalm 34:5
