hospitality

There are always a lot of distractions. That’s why, in every conversation, it’s important to decide at the outset whether the person you’re with is more important.

“[I]t is better to be unavailable than inattentive.” Adele Ahlberg Calhoun

“Always be eager to practice hospitality.” Romans 12:13

yesterday's wrongs

If you’re always carrying yesterday’s wrongs, you’re treating wrongs as part of you. God doesn’t.

“As far as the east is from the west, so far has He removed our transgressions from us.” Psalm 103:12

Father, please show me how I look through Your gracious eyes.

be generous

It’s important to take good care of yourself. Otherwise, you’ll only have ragged leftovers to offer to others.

“Self-care . . . is simply good stewardship of the only gift I have, the gift I was put on earth to offer to others.” Parker Palmer

“[B]e generous.” 2 Corinthians 9:11

taste and see

When you rush through a meal, you don’t really taste it and see it. Minutes are the same way.

“[W]e rush from the past to the future. The present moment becomes a crack between what we did and what we have yet to do.” Adele Ahlberg Calhoun

Lord, I don’t want to miss the goodness of today. Please teach me to taste it and see it. From Psalm 34:8

fears

Fears weigh you down and make you sick and ruin your joy. No good parent wants to see his child weighed down and sick and ruined.

“Don’t panic. I’m with you. There’s no need to fear, because I’m your God. I’ll give you strength. I’ll help you. I’ll hold you steady and keep a firm grip on you.” Isaiah 41:10 (The Message)

Father, please give me the courage to let Your love heal my fears.

very good sense

If God were always and everywhere among us and always and everywhere for us, it would make very good sense to look for Him today always and everywhere.

“We may ignore, but we can nowhere evade, the presence of God. The world is crowded with Him. He walks everywhere incognito.” C. S. Lewis

“Jesus said to them . . . ‘I am among you as one who serves.’” Luke 22:25, 27
