say grace

When you make even a very bad choice, you always have another choice: you can keep carrying around the guilt and shame, or you can dare to say grace.

Father, today I’m daring to trade my guilt and shame for the light and fresh air of Your grace. From 1 John 3:20

“[N]o one is so rich as the man who lives in His grace.” Thomas à Kempis

love others

The main thing today isn’t getting a lot done. The main thing is how you treat people while you’re doing it.

“The main thing is to keep the main thing the main thing.” Stephen Covey

“Love others as well as you love yourself.” Matthew 22:39

take it easy

If it’s up to you to get your family and friends to straighten up and fly right, you have to try really hard in every conversation. If it’s not, you can take it easy.

“Take it easy. Don’t let the sound of your own wheels drive you crazy.” Lyrics by Jackson Browne and Glenn Frey

Lord, You are the Alpha and the Omega, the beginning and the end, and I am wonderfully small. From Revelations 21:6

breathe freely

When you remember that the person you’re listening to needs your understanding far more than your advice, you can both breathe freely.

“When you really listen to another person from their point of view, . . . it’s like giving them emotional oxygen.” Stephen Covey

“Don’t be impressed with your own wisdom.” Proverbs 3:7

like a little child

Being powerful and self-reliant and independent will open a lot of doors, but not the most important one.

“Anyone who will not receive the kingdom of God like a little child will never enter it.” Mark 10:15

Little by little and choice by choice, please give me the courage to rely on You like a little child.

returning and resting

The tougher your circumstances get, the more relief you feel when you remember to give up control.

“‘If you hold on to the handle,’ she said, ‘it’s easier to maintain the illusion of control. But it’s more fun if you just let the wind carry you.’” Brian Andreas

“In returning to Me and resting in Me, you will be helped and liberated.” Isaiah 30:15
