music to His ears

If God wants you to be wholly happy, your Thy-will-be-done must be music to His ears.

“I, thy God, have infinitely more knowledge, power and will to advance thy happiness than thou hast. Therefore seek with all diligence to submit thyself totally to My will. . . .” Catharine of Siena (b. 1347)

“Mary said, . . . ‘Let it be with me just as you say.’” Luke 1:38 (after hearing from Gabriel that she would have a Baby)

a healing relief

Trying to hide all your faults and flaws makes you sick and tired inside. That’s why letting somebody else in is such a healing relief.

“There are many critics who claim that it is morbid to confess your sins. But the morbid thing . . . is to conceal your sins and let them eat away at your soul. . . .” G. K. Chesterton

“Confess your sins to one another . . . so that you may be healed.” James 5:16

so surely coming

When things feel like dark and painful night, it helps to remember that Immanuel means God-is-with-us in the dark and painful night (and in the dawn which is so surely coming).

“The virgin . . . will give birth to a son, and they will call him Immanuel, which means ‘God is with us.’” Matthew 1:23

“Joys are always on their way to us. They are always travelling to us through the darkness of the night. There is never a night when they are not coming.” Amy Carmichael

every small deight

When you wake up whining inside (about being too busy or unappreciated or whatever), you have a choice. You can spend the rest of the day parched and thirsty, or you can decide to drink in every small delight.

“It is certain that the more you try to [give thanks], the more you will see how your path and your lying down are beset with mercies. . . .” Priscilla Maurice

“You give them drink from the river of Your delights.” Psalm 36:8

take five minutes

When you take five minutes to remember all your reasons for saying thank-you, the fears and grumblings lose their grip and leave you free to enjoy.

“I was so troubled. . . . Then I said, . . . ‘I will recall and think about all that You have done in the past. I will remember Your wonderful deeds. . . .’” Psalm 77:4, 10-11

Father, please remind me today to give back to You at least five minutes of thanksgiving.
