all the asking

When keep-on-asking means ask over and over and over again (for a year or two or forty), you might only see in hindsight what miracles were happening in all the asking.

“Keep on asking, and you will receive.” Luke 11:9

Father, thank you for all the asking. I’m just starting to see clearly that I have been receiving all along.

whose shoulders?

It’s a good idea to stop doing every once in a while so you can see whose shoulders the world is on after all.

“Solitude well-practiced will break the power of busyness. . . . You will see that the world is not on your shoulders after all.” Dallas Willard

“Cast all your cares on Him, because He cares for you.” 1 Peter 5:7

make things better

Every time you choose after-you instead of me-first, you make things better (for both of you).

“Every human interaction offers you the chance to make things better or to make things worse.” Barbara Brown Taylor

“Give, and it will be given to you. . . . For with the same measure you use, it will be measured back to you.” Luke 6:38

small and weak

Feeling small and weak doesn’t scare children who know that their father loves them and isn’t.

Father, I feel small and weak today. Be large and strong for me.

“B]ecome children of God. . . .” John 1:12

Your hands, not mine

When somebody close to you needs a lot more than you can give, the weight of not being enough for her makes it hard to breathe until you remember that God is far more than enough.

Father, thank you for reminding me this morning that You are far more than enough for ____ and that her future is in Your hands, not mine.

“Into Your hands I entrust ____. . . . [Her] future is in Your hands.” From Psalm 31:5, 15

see wondrous things

If you keep your imagination locked in the attic today, you might get a lot done, but you probably won’t see wondrous things.

“The imagination should be allowed a certain amount of time to browse around.” Thomas Merton

“Open my eyes, that I might see wondrous things. . . .” Psalm 119:18
