like springtime

When you’ve been trying very, very hard for a long time to do God’s job, quitting feels a lot like springtime.

“I am not responsible for other people’s happiness.”

“Do not look anxiously about you, for I am God. I strengthen, help, hold up and support. . . .” Isaiah 41:10

getting to yes

Maybe God is always (and patiently) asking us if we want to get well. Maybe He knows a lot better than we do that getting to yes takes us a long time.

“Jesus saw him lying there and knew that he had been in this condition for a long time, so He asked him, ‘Do you want to get well?’” John 5:6

“Love perseveres patiently.” 1 Corinthians 13:4

light enough to dance

What if, slowly but surely, you were becoming light enough to dance?

“You just have to get rid of so much baggage to be light enough to dance. . . .” Anne Lamott

“The LORD . . . will transform . . . her barren wastelands . . . . Joy and gladness will be found in her, thanksgiving and the sound of singing.” Isaiah 51:3

even when it hurts

If a good God is slowly shaping and molding you for good, you can relax (even when it hurts).

“We have begun to trust God. . . . Out of this trust comes a letting go of anxieties about ourselves. . . . We become clay in the Potter’s hands.” Janet Hagberg and Robert Guelich

“Lord, you are our Father. We are the clay, and you are the potter.” Isaiah 64:8

weary and burdened

If you want to be weary and burdened today, try self-focus.

Father, please carry the weight of my clamoring self and all its needs today, so that I can rest. I’m very tired of weary and burdened.

“Come to Me, all who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” Matthew 11:28

all the asking

When keep-on-asking means ask over and over and over again (for a year or two or forty), you might only see in hindsight what miracles were happening in all the asking.

“Keep on asking, and you will receive.” Luke 11:9

Father, thank you for all the asking. I’m just starting to see clearly that I have been receiving all along.
