where your feet are

Fears only thrive when they can lure you into the future. They can’t get much traction when you keep choosing to stay in today.

“Be where your feet are.” Unknown

“Your heavenly Father already knows all your needs. . . .  So don’t worry about tomorrow.” Matthew 6:32, 34

wait quietly

If you want to really know somebody, you can’t just barge in. You have to wait quietly, maybe for a long time.

“[T]he soul is . . . shy. Just like a wild animal, it seeks safety in the dense underbrush, especially when other people are around.” Parker Palmer

“Love does not demand. . . .” 1 Corinthians 13:5

the farther you get

The harder you try to be in control (of health or tomorrow or somebody else or whatever), the farther you get from perfect peace and tranquility and contentment.

“You keep in perfect peace and tranquility and contentment the one who trusts You.” Isaiah 26:3

Father, help me today to stop trying to be in control. I want to trust you instead and rest.

unless you're a child

There’s something a little scary about eye contact (unless you’re a child).

“Many of our hearts carry deep wounds . . . open wounds. Anguish to think that someone could touch them. . . . I refuse to look at others for fear they might look back.” Jean Vanier

“Jesus looked at him and loved him.” Mark 10:21

it's okay

When you start to see how very much you need to change and you don’t know how, it’s okay.

HOW: honesty, openness and willingness to try (Unknown)

“The Lord . . . guides. . . .” Psalm 23:1, 3

with compassionate eyes

When you’re learning to live one day at a time, it helps to notice how often you don’t. Just watch yourself today (with compassionate eyes).

Father, please free me to eat and enjoy every bit of today’s daily bread.

“Give us each day our daily bread.” Luke 11:3
