now

If your mind is always running way ahead of where your feet are, you’ll probably miss a lot today.

“We can get . . . so preoccupied with what comes next that we don’t experience now.” Adele Calhoun

“Every desirable and beneficial gift comes out of heaven. The gifts are rivers of light cascading down from the Father of Light.” James 1:17

make me teachable

Once you realize that every person you meet has something to teach you, judging and ignoring seem like missed opportunities.

Lord, please make me teachable today.

“He awakens me . . . to pay attention and listen as one who is being taught.” Isaiah 50:4

leave the reins loose

You can leave the reins loose today because they are in good and strong hands. Believe that, and you’ll be on vacation (even if you’re at the office).

“Leisure is the attitude . . . not of those who grab and grab hold, but of those who leave the reins loose. . . .” Josef Pieper

"Not even a sparrow . . . can fall to the ground without your Father knowing it. And the very hairs of your head are all numbered. So don't be afraid. . . ." Matthew 10:29-31

let a fear speak

The more you find yourself loved, the easier it gets to let a fear speak, say a polite thank-you-for-sharing, and then skip away, leaving it wonderfully behind.

“Fear is a manipulative emotion that can trick us into leading a boring life.” Donald Miller

“Fully-developed love expels every particle of fear.” 1 John 4:18

freely and lightly

The more you keep company with God today, the more moments you’ll live freely and lightly.

“Walk with Me and work with Me -- watch how I do it. Learn the unforced rhythms of grace. . . . Keep company with Me, and you’ll learn to live freely and lightly.” Matthew 11:28-30

“We regard God as an airman regards his parachute; it’s there for emergencies but he hopes he’ll never have to use it.” C. S. Lewis

practice

If you’ve practiced worrying for a long time, not worrying probably will take practice, too.

"[N]ot only in the dust of death, but in the dust of life, there is prepared for you the peace of God. . . .” Handley C. G. Moule

Don’t worry about anything; instead, . . . [t]ell God what you need, and thank Him for all that He has done. Then you will experience His peace. . . .” Philippians 4:6-7
