shining people

Some people love the limelight.  They’re always vying for center stage. If you forget the things they’ve done, they’ll be glad to remind you.  They take up a lot of space, and they make you tired.  But you can’t forget them.  They won’t let you.

And then there are other people -- the ones who would rather point out your accomplishments than theirs; the ones who cook a feast and then sit with sparkling eyes enjoying you enjoying it; the ones who wash the breakfast dishes that everybody else leaves piled up in the sink; the ones who give you their time and attention whenever you need it and make it seem like you’re doing them a favor; the ones who stay at home to meet the repair man so you can leave; the ones who sit for hours with people who are too old or too young to go anywhere so you can go anywhere you want.  You couldn’t live without them, but you might forget that sometimes.  And they’ll never remind you.  They can’t.  They don’t even know it’s true.

I have one of those shining people.  Her name is Mina.  Who’s yours?  Maybe today is a good day to let her know you haven’t forgotten.
