a hard job

For a long time, I thought that God was giving me a very hard job when He said to love people, so I worked very hard at it. Most days, unless I took a vacation, it was one step forward and more steps back than I wanted to count. Waking up every morning to a job that's too hard for you gets tiring, but I kept at it until one day I realized that it's not a hard job at all. It's an impossible job. That would be bad news if it weren't for the good news that He's just waiting for my permission to do it Himself. When I remember that, showing up for work is a pleasure.

"I will give you a new heart. . . . And they will say, 'This desolate land has become like the garden of Eden.'" Ezekiel 36:26, 35.
