homesick

There’s more. Everybody knows it, and everybody longs for it. Even if you try to ignore the longing, it sneaks up on you in dreams or music or movies or bare trees budding. I guess if we’re all so homesick, we must not be home quite yet.

“The big, blazing, terrible truth about man is that he has a heaven-sized hole in his heart, and nothing else can fill it. We pass our lives trying to fill the Grand Canyon with marbles.” Peter Kreeft

“For they are not the thing itself; they are only the scent of a flower we have not found, the echo of a tune we have not heard, news from a country we have never yet visited. . . .  [W]e remain conscious of a desire which no natural happiness will satisfy.” C. S. Lewis
