There was once a little boy who lived in a small town. One morning, his parents told him to get ready for a long walk into the countryside. They were going to see a Man who was healing people. Many other families went, too. Somehow, by eventide, the little boy’s family managed to get so close to the Man that they could hear him talking with his friends. His friends were saying, “It is dinnertime, and everyone is hungry. You should send this crowd away so that they can get something to eat.” But the Man said, “How many loaves of bread do you have? Go and look.” His friend Andrew said, “There is a little boy here who has five barley loaves and two fish, but that’s a drop in the bucket for a huge crowd like this.”
The little boy’s heart was pounding. He handed his five barley loaves and two fish to the Man. The Man smiled at the little boy. He took the food and looked up into the sky and said thank-you. Then he and his friends handed out pieces of the bread and fish until everyone in that sea of people had eaten as much as they wanted. See John 6:1-14.
Lord, I want to be like that little boy. Please take what little I have to offer today. It looks like a mere drop in the bucket to me, but in your hands, who knows what it might become.
