For the last few weeks, I have been on a treasure hunt—looking for opportunities to be kind. I look while I am texting and emailing and making phone calls. I look in stores and restaurants and gas stations. I look during my afternoon walks. I look across the dinner table. I even look in the mirror. The more I look for opportunities to be kind, the less I think about myself. The less I think about myself, the more I enjoy people and trees and birds and breakfast and even myself.
“Be kind to one another. . . .” Ephesians 4:32
“Whenever your life touches another life, there you have opportunity. . . . To give a close, sympathetic attention to every human being we touch; to try to get some sense of how he feels, what he is, what he needs; to make in some degree his interest our own—that disposition and habit would deliver any one of us from isolation or emptiness.” George S. Merriam
