the God of hope

What if, whenever somebody close to you isn’t pleasing in your eyes, you skipped right over poor-me and asked the God of hope to make everything about her pleasing in His eyes?

“May the words of [_____’s] mouth and the musings of [her] heart be pleasing in Your eyes. . . .” Psalm 19:14

“God . . . calls into being that which does not yet exist.” Romans 4:17

strength and song

When you’re in the habit of depending on your own strength, you collect a whole entourage of fears (the front-and-center kind, plus all the stealth ones that fly below the radar). Once you stop, they won’t stick around long.

“Let me distrust myself and put my trust in You.” St. Augustine

“I will trust and not be afraid, for the Lord is my strength and my song. . . .” Isaiah 12:2

the world thirsts

Have you ever noticed that people who are hard on other people tend to get hard (and small and unhappy) themselves?

“Do not judge others . . . for . . . with the standard of measure you use it will be measured back to you.” Matthew 7:1-2

“The world thirsts for grace.” Philip Yancey

pay careful attention

If God were speaking enlivening words today and you were listening, would there be any dull minutes?

Father, please give me ears to hear, so that today will be a listening, water-into-wine sort of day. From Luke 8:8

“Pay careful attention to the way you listen. . . .” Luke 8:18

many words

Chances are you’ll travel through this day speaking many words. What kind will they be?

“[Paul] traveled through . . . speaking many words of encouragement and comfort. . . .” Acts 20:2

Father, most of the people I meet today will be a little weary. Please give me refreshing words to give to them. From Isaiah 50:4

healing hands

When someone you love is in the dark, you’ll feel scared and muddled and pressured, too, until you remember God’s healing hands.

“They brought a blind man to Him and begged Him to touch him. . . . He put His hands on the man’s eyes, and his eyes were opened . . . and he saw everything clearly.” Mark 8:22, 25

Lord, please touch _____’s eyes. Then he will see everything clearly.
