unspoken question

What if my unspoken question were always this: what is it like to be you right now, with all the things that you carry and fear and hope for?

“[C]lothe yourselves with compassion. . . .” Colossians 3:12

"Whenever I hear anyone arguing for slavery, I feel a strong impulse to see it tried on him personally." Abraham Lincoln

a little broken

Once you get used to the fact that we’re all a little broken, it’s a lot easier to relax and enjoy people (including yourself).

“I’m not okay and you’re not okay, but that’s okay.” Alcoholics Anonymous

“[L]ove covers a multitude of sins.” 1 Peter 4:8

eating and drinking

There are a lot of bad and sad reasons for eating and drinking.  I wonder what would happen to them if we stopped to say small thank-yous, bite-by-bite and sip-by-sip?

Father, please remind me today to say small thank-yous.

“In everything (including eating and drinking) give thanks. . . .” 1 Thessalonians 5:18 (parenthetical added)

choose joy

You can make today a me-first day or a you-first day. Choose joy.

“Let our life be one of self-sacrifice, always studying the welfare of others, finding our highest joy in blessing others.” Andrew Murray

“Be humble, thinking of others. . . .” Philippians 2:3

space to be heard

When somebody gives you space to be heard, it heals. Even the best advice pales by comparison.

“People need to know their value far more than they need answers.” Unknown

“He who restrains his lips is wise and understanding.” Proverbs 10:19

today

When there’s one important person you haven’t loved well, the very best thing you can do is trade all your excuses for a freeing fresh start today.

“Today, start treating _____ the way you want to be treated.” From Luke 6:31

Father, thank you for giving me a freeing fresh start today.
