let go

When you’re facing a mountain (of a person or an event or whatever), you can either try really, really hard to be in control or you can let go.

“Let go and let God.” Unknown

“And He said, . . . ‘My strength comes into its own in your weakness.’” 2 Corinthians 12:9

everyday invitations

When you see the great things that other people do, it’s easy to miss the everyday invitations to do some small good.

“Not all of us can do great things, but we can do small things with great love.” Mother Teresa

“Then I heard the Lord asking, ‘Whom shall I send? . . .’ And I said, ‘Here I am. Send me.’” Isaiah 6:8

look deeper

Father, I don’t want to label and limit the people I’m with today. Please help me to look deeper.

“The person sitting opposite me is always a mystery. When I label, I limit.” Margaret Guenther

“Am I my brother’s keeper -- someone who guards and protects and celebrates him?” Genesis 4:9

without words

When someone listens to you deeply, he tells you more without words than he could ever tell you with words.

“Notice how you feel when someone thinks deeply about what you are saying.” Alice Fryling

“[A] time to be silent. . . .” Ecclesiastes 3:7

with open arms

When your plans get foiled, you can either stay sad and mad about things you can’t change, or you can let them go and welcome the rest of the day with open arms.

“God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change. . . .” Serenity prayer

“The peace of mind and heart that is Mine – this is My gift to you.” John 14:27

words to give

Everybody you meet today could probably use a little encouragement, and you do have words to give.

“Peter said, . . . ‘[B]ut what I do have I will give to you.’” Acts 3:5-6 (emphasis added)

Father, please give me encouraging words to give away today.
